Srikakulam. The newest Christmas 2024 comedy-thriller is Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes. The title part in this movie is taken by comic Vennela Kishore. Discover how the movie performed by reading on.
Story:
Tasked with uncovering the death of a young lady, Mary (Dokala Navya), in Vizag, Om Prakash, dubbed Sherlock Holmes (Vennela Kishore), a quirky investigator from Srikakulam, Having only seven days to solve the crime, he names seven suspectsโBalakrishna (Ravi Teja Mahadasyam), Bhramaramba (Ananya Nagalla), Ramesh Patnaik (Prabhakar), and others. The riddle starts to clear as he puts the facts together. Mary was murdered; how are these suspects related to the crime? The tale revolves mostly on the responses.
Plus Points:
Leading actor Vennela Kishore delivers superb comic timing and deft use of the Srikakulam dialect to engage the viewers in this film. The second section nicely clarifies his naughty attitude, therefore strengthening his persona.
Ananya Nagalla plays two different tones of her character rather well in her part. Her character conduct, which says much about her acting ability, might even irritate some viewers.
While Prabhakar, Bhadram, Anish Kuruvilla, and others produce within their character constraints, Raviteja delivers suitably. Excellent contributions are the conversations about Srikakulam and the song honouring the area.
Minus Points:
To keep the viewers interested, crime comedy thrillers usually have an interesting plot with surprising turns. Sadly, this film falls short as early on the killer’s identity becomes foreseeable, particularly for habitual genre fans.
The first half progresses slowly, which makes one feel directionless and uninteresting. Although the second half picks up speed and offers some enjoyment, the general story lacks the hold required for a genre this kind of. A few of the comedic moments are flat.
Particularly in the first hour, the narrative seems average, hence the script may have been crisper. The dubbing of characters like Anish Kuruvilla, Siya Gautham, and a supporting female character who has a love relationship with another lady seems mismatched, therefore reducing their effect and leaving their personalities undeveloped.
Technical elements:
Mohan writes and directs with an average quality. The film lacks the complexity and turns needed for a criminal comedy thriller, even if the effort is clear.
Sunil Kashyap and Gyaani’s music is mediocre; the background score may have had greater effect. The production standards are good and the photography of Mallikarjun Naragani is passable. But especially in the first half, the editing should have been much better.
Conclusion:
Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes is a partly working criminal comedy thriller overall. Though Vennela Kishore and Ananya Nagalla provide outstanding performances, the movie finds it difficult to keep constant involvement. Underdeveloped characters, a slow-paced first half, and a predictable plot drag it down. Though it’s advisable to keep the expectations modest, fans of the criminal thriller genre might find it worth a try.
